House in Brookline (one mile from Boston), Massachusetts,USA

Our home is the second and third floor of a two family house, there are tenants on the first floor.  We have a small back yard and a wonderful park just across the street that includes a big lawn, sprinkler fountain and some climbing equipment and a sand box.   Much of the house has been renovated within the last few years.  It is sunny, light and  very roomy, with 17 skylights on the top  floor.  The second floor has a kitchen, eating area, living room, den, bedroom and full bath and two porches, back and front.  The top floor has three bedrooms, an office and 1 1/2 baths.  There is central air conditioning on the top floor and wall units on the second floor.  There is also usually a nice breeze that along with the ceiling fans often is enough.  We have a new dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer along with a refrigerator/freezer and disposal.

Our Neighbourhood

  • shopping Stop and Shop Supermarket (1.0 km)
  • golfing Public Golf Course (5.3 km)

Our house is across the street from a beautiful park that holds concerts and movies on Wednesday nights and also has a sprinkler fountain, a dog park. climbing structures and swings for kids along with a sand box.  It is a quiet and very friendly neighborhood, we all know each other.  There are many kids and it is easy to meet the neighbors.
We are within a 5 minute walk to the D Branch of the Green Line, which is called the T, the local public transportation trolley/rail.  It runs every 5-10 minutes from 5:30 am to 12:30 am.  Brookline Village is a 5 minute walk as well and has some quaint restaurants and a cafe, a 15 minute walk will take you to Coolidge Corner which has a large selection of stores and restaurants.
Brookline Village is within walking distance to the "medical area" which includes Children's Hospital, Brigham and Women's  Beth Israel, Joslin and others.  It is also within walking distance to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, and the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.
There is an incredible array of things to do in Boston, many museums, much American history, whale watching, culture, shopping, restaurants and sight seeing.  Within a few hours drive is Cape Cod with it's many beaches and new england shingled houses.  In the other direction is the Berkshires, 2 hours west by car and a cultural hub for summer performances in theatre, dance, music as well as museums such as The Clark, Mass MoCA and the Williams Art Museum.  Also 2 hours away are the White Mountains in New  Hampshire which are great for hiking.  Newport, Rhode Island, summer home of many of the "barons" of the 19th century, with beaches, great sailing and huge "cottages" is one and a half hours away by car.  Vermont and Maine are also close by.
