Strawbale house near to Tongeren-B and Maastricht-NL
Dear home exchange friends!
Welcome in our house, one of the first strawbale houses of Belgium, built in 2003 with the natural materials wood, straw and clay. We have renovated our house in the summer of 2022. It is a very cosy and warm house, open to the first floor. We have many big windows to our beautiful garden, where you can eat on the terrace and swim in our swimming pond.
On the ground flour there is a kitchen with a coocking island, a dining room, a living room. All these funtions are compacted in one open space without walls and doors. Also on the ground flour: one bathroom, two toilets and a scullery.
On the first floor we have one very big master bedroom with a library, a sitting area with sofa and a long desk. There are 2 more bedrooms .
We have a big, nice modern garden with a natural swimming pond, built in 2022.
You can use our bycicles.
We like music, so you will find a piano and some guitars.

Riemst is a small village, near to Tongeren, in the region Haspengouw, which is rural with beautiful landscapes, nice to walk and to bike.
We are living in the Euregio, which means that you have 4 regions in 3 countries with 3 languages, very near to eachother:
- Hasselt, Tongeren, Bilzen are small towns in Belgian Limburg, Flandern, (all 15 min drive) where people speak Dutch.
- Tongeren is the oldest town of Belgium with an impressive Gallo-Romanic museum and a wellknown vintage fair on Sunday morning.
- Liège is about 25 km and is a city in Wallony, the French part of Belgium (20 min drive). Liège has nice shopping possibilities, an international foodmarket on Sunday morning and a famous opera house.
- Maastricht is a beautiful and very cosy city in Limburg in the Netherlands, (15 min drive) where they also speak Dutch. It is a university city at the river Maas, with a lot of shops and restaurants.
- Aachen is a big city in Germany, (30 min drive) so here you can speak German, with shops and the famous church of Karel der Große, the Dom of Aachen.
You can enjoy our neighbourhood with nature, small villages, small cities. There is a good touristique service - we will provide you with touristique information.
If you like to visit bigger cities, then you can drive in a (few) hour(s) to Antwerp, Brussels, Brugge or Gent, Köln, Düsseldorf, Metz, Paris, Amsterdam, London, ...
