At Intervac International, we believe that home exchange should not be a transaction but an opportunity to create personal connections. Our members are part of an exchange family, making memories that last a lifetime.

We have a "no money and no points-policy", and stay committed to creating a safe space where dream adventures come true. Our exchange community is made up of experienced home exchangers from around the world who are eager to help anyone who wishes to fulfill their traveling dreams, in a flexible, cost effective and sustainable manner.

Thousands of exchangers each year
Every day of the year intervac members are living in each other's homes, taking care of each other's pets and plants, and experiencing each other's neighbourhoods. Intervac members are host and guest to over 5000 exchanges per year. And we've been in business since 1953! When it comes to the security and enjoyablity of a home exchange holiday, those numbers speak volumes for the Intervac way of life.

We have thirty-five national representatives around the world and most of them have been helping members like you find great exchanges for twenty years and more. Our agents know the ropes, they know the best tips, and they will do everything they can to help you find a great exchange. Intervac is located in your country, and speaks your language.

And because we've been in business for +70 years and our concept is still fresh and innovative, we are proud to have many second and now third generation exchangers among our members. These are adults who first experienced home exchange as kids and now they are sharing it with their children and grand-children.

We are the original home exchangers

Our story

INTERVAC was started in Europe in the early 1950's by a group of teachers with plenty of vacation time looking for economic means to travel internationally. After a few exchanges, they realized that living in each other's homes was great for cultivating international friendships. Our concept has been growing ever since - primarily by referrals from satisfied home exchangers. Currently INTERVAC offers its services around the world and facilitates home exchanges for 30,000 families from all walks of life.

Our name

The name INTERVAC is made from words international and vacations and is registered as a trademark in most countries where INTERVAC operates. In countries where we are represented we simply call ourselves INTERVAC followed by the country name.

For example: We are INTERVAC Austria in Austria and INTERVAC Canada in Canada. Our umbrella organisation - INTERVAC International - is a registered non-profit organisation in Sweden.

Our members

Our members like to travel and experience life in other countries. They are passionate about expanding their horizons. They have a wide range of backgrounds and include those who travel alone, couples, families with young children and retirees. They like to make new friends while they are busy seeing the world and enjoying the benefits of home exchange

We keep a low profile, taking care of our 30,000 members. Our growth is fueled by referrals from satisfied members. We have agents in 45 countries, we speak your language and live in your culture. We are here to guide and advise you how to get the most out of your home exchange experiences. If you have questions, we'd love to hear from you.

Intervac offer different possibilities of Home exchanges!

1. Classic home exchange
Two members agree to spend their holidays at each other's homes simultaneously for an agreed upon period of time. No third party.
2. Non-simultaneous home exchange
Home exchange between members takes place at staggered dates: For exemple, member A comes to member B in summer, and member B comes to member A in winter.
3. Youth exchange
Youth exchange is an opportunity for young people (usually teenagers) to have an exchange stay with each other, thanks to the membership of their legal guardian, who are a member of Intervac.
4. Hospitality
Welcome and free accommodation between Intervac members, without any home exchange.
