Charming house in an old fishing village east of Uppsala - excellent communications
EXCHANGE WISHES:
Most of all we want a hospitality exchange the last week of October 2025 in a french speaking family for our youngest (15yo) and myself.
OUR HOUSE: Our house is an old and charming two story building, situated in a large secluded garden in an old fishing village, four minutes walk from the harbor and 15 minutes walk from the beach.
There are three bedrooms, a big kitchen with dining; a big living room with a sofa (that can be used as an extra bed if you happen to need more than seven) and a big table for dinners and games. In the book shelf you'll find a variety of puzzles and games.
In the master bedroom there is a fireplace and in the wood shed you will find lots of fire wood.
The bathroom/toilet has a bathtub with shower and also a big washing machine.
There is electrical heating in all rooms for the winter.
OUTDOOR;
The garden has lots of trees and fruit trees (cherry, apples, plums) outdoor dining, a hammock and a grill.
In the shed there are bikes at your disposal.

About the neighborhood
Our house in Öregrund is centrally situated in this beautiful former fishing village. In the summer Öregrund works as a magnet on the inhabitants not only of Uppsala but also on those in Stockholm due to its proximity to these two cities and its beauty and charm.
During summer there are lots of restaurants and cafes and ice-cream parlors open around the harbour, but since there is quite a large number of permanent inhabitants of Öregrund the service level i good all year around (even if the choice of delicatessen food items in the stores is considerably larger during summer.)
There is a bus from Uppsala (1h40 minutes) every two hours or more. By car it is a 75 min drive from Uppsala.
There is an active tennis club in Öregrund which has lots of activities during the summer and slightly less during the rest of the year. There are outdoor tennis courts rentable for the public on three different locations and one indoor tennis hall (also open for rent by the hour at a very decent price).
There is lots to see for the historically interested person in the area. Please follow the link below for more information.

OUR PERMANENT HOME is situated in Uppsala. We could do exchanges with it too. It has 4 bedrooms, a sitting room, a large kitchen/dining area, 3 toilets, bath and shower. There is a cozy, secluded garden for outside dining (a must for Swedes during summer).
The house is semidetached in an area where many university teachers live. There are several playgrounds for children within the area, and the city bus stop is less than 50 meters away. However, Uppsala is a bikers’ town and several bikes are available. Walking a few hundred meters from our house we enter a nature reserve in the Valley of the Håga River.
Our house is 10 minutes by bike from downtown Uppsala, and yet 300 meters from a nature reserve in the Valley of River Håga, where sheep graze in the summer and a bronze-age mound next to a large forest.
Uppsala has many historic sites, many connected to its university, founded in 1477. The cathedral is the burial site for Carl von Linne, who set up the systematic classification of plants. His actual botanical garden and home is within the city.
Thirty minutes by bike north is Old Uppsala, where the Vikings had their ceremonial capital. An interesting museum now tells their story.
In the Southern Suburbs of Uppsala is Lake Mälaren with swimming and sailing.
Stockholm, with its many sights is a mere 40 minutes away by train, and Helsinki an overnight, very scenic, ferry-ride away.
There are many things to do in and around Uppsala: http://www.uppsalatourism.se/en/

Our main wish for 2025 is to find a hospitality visit with a French speaking family for our youngest daughter and myself during the last week of October. So I start by presenting the two of us:
Torun is a 15 years old girl who has just been brave enough to chose French at lycee despite not having studied it seriously for more that one year (and not seriously due to poor instruction another two years). She is a bright and ambitious student and she loves cats.
Malin is a medical doctor who would like to speak better French.
Stefan is also a medical doctor but works as a university professor. He speaks several languages including English, German, Russian and French.
We also have three adult children who have left home but who sometimes want to travel with us:
A 28 year old boy who is doing his masters in IT engineering. The summer of 2012 (when he was 15) he did a youth exchange with a french boy which resulted in much improved grades in French and the joy of having a nice young Frenchman in our family for 10 days.
A 24 year old boy who has just begun his studies in machine engineering. He lives with his girlfriend and likes to sail.
A 21 year old girl who has joined a street dance school. She did a youth exchange at the age of 15 which improved her French a lot.
