House in Ballyferriter, Dingle, County Kerry, Ireland

Hi I would like to tell you more about our house and area. The house, which is our vacation home, is fifteen years old with charming old-world decor, clean and comfortable, well equipped and furnished. It is in a calm quiet area close to a village (5 min walk) and has gardens and a terrace. It is private but there are houses nearby and friendly helpful neighbours so you will not be isolated. In the house downstairs there is a large sitting room, TV room, large kitchen/diningroom with patio doors to terrace and garden, laundry room with linen cupboard and washer-dryer and downstairs washroom. Upstairs there is one en-suite bedroom with double bed, another double bedroom and two more bedrooms each having two single beds and a main bathroom with shower and bath. The house has central heating, an electric stove in the TV room and an open coal-effect gas fire in the sitting room.

West Kerry is renowned for its culture and heritage. It is in the Gaeltacht which means that local people speak Gaelic as well as English and Irish cultural events e.g. traditional music and dance are frequently held in the area with both local and national performers. Our nearest town, Dingle, 8 miles away, is a beautiful old coastal town with a marina, fishing port, great restaurants and pubs, a market on Fridays and its very own dolphin, Fungi, who can be visited via a short boat trip. People visit here from all over the world. Children love Oceanworld Aquarium and Play at Height climbing centre. There is also bowling, mini golf, sailing, sea kayaking, fishing and horse riding available locally as well as games of Gaelic football and hurling to enjoy. For small children there are pet farms and catch-your-own fish ponds to visit. There are many interesting shops to visit as well as three supermarkets. There are art galleries, concerts, live music in the pubs, late bars and a night club to entertain you. This is a colourful, lively and historic town.

Our local village, Ballyferriter, has friendly people, three pubs, a hotel and a cafe all serving food as well as a Catholic church, a school, a museum and a shop. People have vacation homes in this area and they socialise with the locals who are very friendly and welcoming. There is often music in the pubs as well as in other venues throughout the area. The scenery in West Kerry is truly breathtaking. A drive around the beautiful Slea Head is a must-see for visitors and the view on this drive was once described by National Geographic as the most beautiful in the world. There are many beautiful beaches dotted around the area as well as mountains to climb, the Blasket islands to visit by ferry and an 18 hole golf course nearby. .Killarney is one hour and Galway is 4 hours away.

By car Farranfore Airport is a little over an hour away ,Shannon Airport 2 and three quarters hours , Dublin Airport 4 and a half hours and Cork Airport is three hours. There is a train service from Dublin to Tralee our county town which is about an hour away and buses go from there to Dingle. A daily local bus goes from Ballyferriter to Dingle. Two bikes are available and there are wonderful walks in the area.

We are honest, trustworthy people and will leave your house exactly as we find it. I will be very happy to provide any further information about the house or area that may be required..I will also leave information in the house for you and can leave names and contact numbers for reliable babysitters. Please be assured that I will do everything I can to make your time in my home as safe, comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

With best wishes from Helena Kane

Ballyferriter is a small but lively village particularly in summer when there are lots of visitors. It is located 8 miles from Dingle, 40 miles from Tralee (the county town) and 47 miles from Killarney. Our house is a 5 minute walk from the village with sidewalk and street lighting. Ballyferriter is close to the sea, surrounded by mountains and is on the beautiful Slea Head drive, part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It is a close knit community, accustomed to visitors and welcomes them warmly.
