Spacious townhouse in Hasselt / centre of Europe - moving to Sweden soon so not available at the moment
Good to know: we are in the process of moving to Sweden. So this house is not available at the moment. But we will start exchanging our Swedish house when available.
Hello Intervac friends, we (PhiL - SarA - Elias - Stina) live in the eastern part of Belgium. Close to Germany and the Netherlands. Tip: log in on the Intervac website to see all of our house pictures. We hope to find another sweet summer exchange in Scandinavia (Sweden, Denmark, Iceland ...) for 2018.
Our house is pretty new (finished in 2011 - log in so you can see all the pictures). It's a town house in a dead end street with a garden. So not a lot of traffic here ;-). It's light, bright, brand new and we have very friendly neighbours that will/can help you out. We have a big kitchen downstairs that connects to the back terrace. On the first floor we have a living room that's linked to the front terrace (great to relax here when the weather is nice). Also on the first floor: our bathroom, parents bedroom, toilet and laundry room. On the top floor we have a big play area for the kids and 2 children's bedrooms.
With two kids hanging around: we have enough toys, bikes, dvd's etc... A nice playground is only a few steps away. During the summer we will set up our pool (see pictures). We have a house cleaner coming in every week (also included in exchange). We have 2 TV's (kitchen and living room), free WIFI, Playstation 2 console, WII, Apple TV,... We don't have pets because one of our children is allergic to cats etc. But if you have pets: exchange possible if family/friends can take care of them. No problem if the pets (rabbits, chickens etc.) are outside!
A walk to the city centre takes about 10/15 minutes. If you like cycling (with kids): we have a Winther Kangaroo bike and 2 normal bikes. If wanted: we can arrange childrens bikes for different ages. The railway station (trains to Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, the sea...) is 10 minutes from here. If you would wish to exchange cars: we have a Toyota Verso S from 2012 with (if necessary) children's seats.
We are looking for an open-minded young family that wants to exchange homes. We really like Scandinavia, but any other destination in Europe would be cool. Preferrably during the summer, but i'm sure we can work something out. We can be flexible.
Ghent - Belgium (a nice citytrip in our own country)
Strängnäs - Sweden (our first one in another country - great fun)
Valls - Spain (summer vacation near the sea with great weather)
Alphen aan den Rijn - the Netherlands (we like 'Holland' :-))
Halmstad - Sweden (well, we are fan of Sweden!)
Roskilde - Denmark (great area, close to the Fjord and Copenhagen)
Leeuwarden - The Netherlands (very nice newyear exchange)
Ystad - City of Wallander in beautiful Skane
Copenhagen / Bronshoj (inspiring city of bikes)
Kleve - Germany (relaxing winter exchange near the Rhine)
Aarhus - great city in Jutland/Denmark
Göteborg/Mölndal: close to city and nature in the summer of 2017
Wageningen: new year in the green heart of the Netherlands
Mofalla: superb summer exchange in the center of southern Sweden
We love this way of travel. It's great to visit different places/countries AND to meet the people from those countries.
If we are not available but you would love to visit Hasselt/Limburg/Belgium - feel free to contact member BE1002225
Our town is called Hasselt. It's relatively small (75.000 people) but cosy. We live right outside the city centre, in a dead end street. It's about a 2 hour drive to the sea...but the local outdoor swimming pool is only 2,5 kilometers away. If you like shopping: Hasselt is the 4th most important shopping city in Belgium. The town is not that big but is pretty vibrant and has all the things you need for entertainment (shops, big cinema, bars, lots of restaurants, skatepark,...)
Our province Limburg is situated at the heart of Europe. From here, you can visit our neighbours and the fascinating cultural cities of Aachen, Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Cologne and Maastricht without a second’s hesitation. Within one hour, you can visit 3 countries ;-). Sounds cool, no? Check out our region in this 2 minute video
Distances: Brussels: 1 hour / Antwerp: 45 minutes / Maastricht: 35 minutes / Aachen: 50 minutes / Cologne: 90 minutes / Liège: 35 minutes.

And because we Belgians are not used to brag about our country...i will let Lonely Planet do the final bit of talking:
"Self-deluding foreigners who’ve never been here often quip that nobody can name five famous Belgians. Or that Belgium is ‘boring’. ‘So there’s beer and mussels, but what else?’ Belgians’ downbeat, self-deprecating sense of humour means that locals are more than happy to let such folks fool themselves. If foreigners want to ignore the country’s astonishing art history, its 60-plus Unesco sites, and bizarre carnivals that make Rio’s look unimaginative, so be it. As one Antwerp resident half-mockingly suggested, ‘Don’t waste your time here, Amsterdam is so much prettier!’
But the truth is that Belgium remains a country where people live well. There are strong social support systems, liberal attitudes, imaginative museums, a vibrant theatrical and artistic life and fabulous food. Belgian beers are divine and endlessly varied. Big new attractions for visitors continue to blossom.
WE WOULD LOVE TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR HOUSE.
