Our Neighbourhood

Faaborg is an old town, dating back from 1100. It's a small town (7000 inhabitants) at the Sydfynske Øhav, the archipelago south of Funen. It´s a quiet town with good beaches, good walks and 3 km (1,5 mile) away the Sydfynske Alper, the Alps of the Funen.
There are two supermarkets within a short walking distance (3-400 meters) from our house. There are five further supermarkets in town - plus two butchers and two bakers (the one on Svendborgvej is particularly good).
From Faaborg you can go on an island-to-island-travel with the small ferries that ply the waters of the Sydfynske Øhav. There are ferries to four islands from Faaborg, and from the nearbytown Svendborg (30 minutes) there are ferries for a handful more islands.
Faaborg is a short drive - 40 minutes - from Odense, the hometown of the world famous author H.C. Andersen. In Odense there are many museums and a huge shoppingcenter as well as a nice center with nice coppled streets.
Faaborg is two hours drive from Legoland Denmark and two hours drive from the danish capital of Copenhagen with The Little Mermaid, the queens castle Amalienborg and much more.

The pictures:
1. The cannons and the sea, 80 meters from our doorstep. The cannons were in use in the danish-english war in 1807, but were never fired. The danish soldiers became too scared of an english frigate...
2. One of the old cobbled streets of Faaborg. The streets of the center of Faaborg is dating back from the middle ages.
3. The new harbourfront with canal, bridges and good restaurants. Try the Det Hvide Pakhus (The White Warehouse) or eat traditional danish food at the nearby Hotel Færgegården.
4. The old belltower from 1475 is one of the most remarkable churchtowers in Denmark - the church is standing 400 meters from the tower! But the view from the tower to the archipelago is great.
5. Legoland Denmark is two hours drive from our houes.
