House outside Helsinki, Finland

Hello friends and families!
Because of renovation in our house we cannot make any exchange in Summer 2014.
We live in a small village only 30 min by car from the center of  Helsinki. Our house is built in the 1950´s, and has been enlarged  in the 1980´s and also renovated and enlarged 3 years ago. We now have approx. 160m2.  There are 5-6 beds in our house. Three room for our daughters and one for the parents. Beds can also be moved around, to get two dubble bedrooms. Living room, dining room and kitchen separetly. Inside the house, togehter with the bathroom and shower, we have an electric sauna. Outside in the garden we have a traditional old sauna that you heat with logs of wood in an owen. Exciting! The pool , 5,5 meters, is built last summer. Nice after the hot sauna.
During the Summer we often eat outside at one of the two terraces. Barbecue-stuff available.
We live in the countryside, close to the nature, surrounded by trees and bushes, with the nearest road 100 meters away. Very little noice from the road.  Neighbours are not too close either. Our yard is ca 100 x 50 meters. The village we live in has a small food store and also a bakery.
About winter in the southern parts of Finland we can tell that it normally beginns in early December when it gets colder and starts to snow. The last two winters (2011, 2012) have been very rich of snow and quite cold. Some year the snow didn´t come before Christmas eve, so it´s  varying a bit. Skiing is possible starting right in front of our house, and there is a place for outside-skating in the village. The closest place for downhill skiing is 30 min away by car.

Our Neighbourhood

We live in the countryside in the capital region only 30min drive from the center of Helsinki and 30 min from the airport. Although we have all the main tourist attractions only half an hour away, we still have a big national park, Nuuksio, pretty close. This forest, "unspoiled by progress", is an adventure of it´s own. Some people claim they have seen bears there...
You will find several shoppingcenters and restaurants in Espoo 15 min away by car. Gasstations are 5 min away. There are several places for horse-riding in our village and there is a very child-friendly beach (lake) only 7 min away. Waterparks are located half an hour away.
Helsinki can offer almost everything that a capital usually can; museums, fashion, concerts, nightlife, sportevents ect. From Helsinki You have also daily departures to Stockholm (Sweden)and Tallinn (Estonia) by ship. To Tallinn there are several departures every day (daytrips) and to Stockholm and back takes 2 nights and 1 day. There are also possibilities to make a trip to St. Petersburg.
The archipelago outside Helsinki and Espoo is worth visiting. There are arranged boat-tours starting from the marketsquare in the center of Helsinki.

We have 5 bicycles (2 for adults and 3 for children) to be used.
Travelling with the kids has been a part of our life for some years now. We have visited Greece, England, Canarian Islands, Malta, Thailand, Denmark, France, Spain ect.
