Family friendly neighbourhood. Only few minutes away is a well known park (valley) which is popular for outdoor activities. That is Fossvogsdalur. You can walk there, just 5-10 minutes distance, or you can drive there and park the car. There are walking paths, ponds, playgrounds and lovely small picnic area. On the ponds are many ducks that are goodies and always want bread. It is ok to feed them. In 20 minutes walk you can find supermarket,, restaurants, fast food stations, coffee house, pharmacy and a few other things. Next swimmingpool is also in 20 minutes walk but 5 minutes driving. That is Kópavogslaug. Just beside the swimming pool is a church, Kópavogskirkja, around it are many large stones that the fairies live in, but folklore is common thing here. There is also a cultural center with a library, a natural science office and a concert hall. The big area is called Hamraborg and is in 5 minutes driving distance.
In the town is also another swimmingpool, smaller. That is Salalaug. It is 12 minutes driving distance. If you driving to Salalaug, you drive past Smáralind, which is one of Iceland's largest mall. The other is called Kringla and is located in Reykjavík, near Kopavogur
Four cheap grocery stores is in the town, Bonus, and Kronan. Shopping for food there is the cheapest.
Kopavogur is quite right at Reykjavík and very easy to get there if you had a car. There are more swimming pools and family areas and fun to enjoy in the city center.
