House in San Sebastian, Spain

Our house is small (2 double bedrooms, two small bathrooms, livingroom and kitchen plus basement) but comfortable with a terrace and a small garden; in the centre of town but in a very quiet neighbourghood and 5 minutes' walk to the beach.

San Sebastián (in the Basque Country) is a small (180.000 inhabitants) seaside town on the Northern coast of Spain very close to the French border (15 miles). Mountains and sea are at close hand and there are nice towns, quite close at both sides of the border: Bilbao, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Pamplona, Bayonne, Biarritz... The wine region "La Rioja" is an excellent excuse for a day's excursion. The weather doesn't get too hot in the summer but is pleasant to have a swim and sunbathe. Our gastronomy is said to be excellent.
Unfortunately, we don't have a cat any more, but we love animals and we will take care of your pets if necessary.

Interesting webs to have an idea of the region:

www.euskadi.net   (the Basque Country)
www.alternative-aquitaine.co.uk/regions/cote_basque/cote_basque.htm (the French side of the border)

Our Neighbourhood

We are 5 minutes' walk to the beach.
Matia Kalea is full of all kinds of shops: groceries, greengroceries, butcher's, bakeries, chemists, fishmongers, etc.
Big supermarket (Super Amara, open from 9 to 9 p.m., Monday to Saturday) and Health Centre in Zumalakarregi.
A 20 minutes' walk to town centre or several buses if you don' want to walk (buses: 5, 25, 18, 33 and 40).
And our little, private street is very quiet while it's very close to bars and shops.

About Our Family

We are only the two of us, both retired, but still healthy enough to walk around. We have two sons and three grandchildren who live quite close and whom we see quite frequently. We used to have a cat but don't have any pets at the moment. My husband used to be a jewel designer and maker and I have been a secondary school teacher till I retired a few years ago.

Lifestyle

Now that we are retired we lead a quiet but energetic life; we enjoy family and friends; take long walks every day and love listening to music and reading. Josep is an amateur, but very good -I think- photographer.
