Close to vibrant Galway city & to beautiful Connemara on the Wild Atlantic Way [ edit ]

Our house is 10 minutes from the vibrant historic city of Galway and 20 minutes from beaches on the Atlantic coast. We live in the small town/village of Moycullen on the doorstep of the famous Connemara with its beautiful mountains, lakes etc.

Our house was renovated in 2012 and redecorated with a bright comfortable living area. This includes an open plan living room, dining area and kitchen with all modern conveniences. In addition there are three bedrooms and a study. The master suite includes an ensuite bathroom and dressing room. Our house is set on a half acre site with trees to the front and a large south-facing deck to the rear. There are views of Lough Corrib (famous fishing and boating lake - 8km away) from the living rooms and from the deck. The house is within walking distance of shops, restaurants and three pubs. Our home is named 'Suaimhneas', which is Irish for tranquility, reflecting the experience of previous exchangers.

The Aran Islands are easily accessible by plane or ferry. The world famous Burren is a short drive (1 hour) away.

In Moycullen you have the benefit of being near all these natural amenities while still being only 10km from Galway city. Galway is a university town steeped in history. It is small but has all the benefits of a big city. It has theatres, 4+ golf courses, a swimming complex (9km), a great variety of restaurants, pubs (many with traditional Irish music), many shopping centres and everything else you would expect from a vibrant city.

These are some recommendations we got from previous exchangers on a different website:

  1. Our trip in Ireland has been wonderful! The house of Haulie and Ann helped us to enjoy our holiday. It's bright and really confortable with a very beautiful garden, a perfect starting point to explore the country: close to the charming Connemara landscapes, the Corrib Lake and the unforgettable locations of "The quiet man" movie, close to Sligo and the poetic Yeats places , the amazing Ciffs of Moher and more. Besides, Galway is full of pubs where it's possible to listen traditional irish live music. Thanks again, Haulie and Ann, for your kind hospitality!

  1. We spent 3 glorious weeks in this lovely home. We felt very welcomed upon our arrival after a very long day of traveling. An Irish stew was waiting for us in their fridge along with a gift book about 'The Wild Atlantic Way'. Their house and car were immaculately clean and well cared for. Their garden and patio was beautiful. There are so many things to see and do in that part of Ireland. Their house was in a perfect location to drive the Wild Atlantic Way in both directions. We explored the coastal towns from Sligo in the north all the way down to Cork in the south. The icing on the cake was meeting them at the Dublin airport when we handed over their keys and car. Such lovely people. I would HIGHLY recommend exchanging homes with Haulie and Ann. You will love their hospitality and home.

The best place to see Ireland

  1. The location of Moycullen is ideal. Galway is a 15 min. drive and the northern route has wonderful little villages and we buzzed south to Limerick. Your home is absolutely lovely and comfortable, and the garden is fabulous. What a special treat it was to look out onto such a surrounding every morning; first from our bedroom, then from the kitchen. And the sunrises. Much to our surprise we were blessed to see the sun come up nearly every morning and then delighted in having it set in the sitting area of your kitchen. We had so much good weather we could hardly believe it. This was our second trip to Ireland, but not our last. Thank you for being such a gracious host.
