A modern family home close to Edinburgh in a quiet town near the sea. We are now booked up for 2025 but open to suggestions for 2026.

Our 4 bedroom, detached family home set in a quiet neighbourhood with a large garden. Our home is just 5 minutes from the train station which takes 15 minutes to Edinburgh City Centre. The town of Prestonpans is near the motorway, providing quick access to the many castles and landmarks in Scotland.

About the neighborhood

The Town
In a modern and quiet community our home is situated in a small town with access to a well stocked supermarket 5 minutes away. There are a small number of shops within the town with play parks, sports centre and a seaside walk. There is one local historic pub that does pub food.

The Region of East Lothian
There are various walking opportunities in the countryside and along the miles of sandy beaches in East Lothian. There are lots of golf courses in within a short distance. East Lothian is a beautiful area of Scotland with beaches, hills and lots of culture. East Lothian is a mecca for golfers with many links courses to visit.

Transport
The train station in the town is less than 10 minutes walk away with trains going to Edinburgh. The journey takes only 15 minutes. Going east by train you can also use the train to visit North Berwick - a popular seaside town.

Driving into Edinburgh City Centre is 20-30 minutes depending on the time of day. Parking in Edinburgh is expensive and there is a 'low emissions zone' to be aware of.

There is parking at hour home for two cars. We are just 5 minutes drive to the main motorway (A1) providing easy access to many local castles, golf courses and distilleries across Scotland.

We would recommend having a car if wishing to travel to the Highlands of Scotland as public transport outwith Edinburgh is limited.

Historic Links
The Battle of Prestonpans was the first battle of the last Jacobite Rising. It took place on 20-21 September 1745. The Jacobite army led by Charles Edward Stuart (Bonnie Prince Charlie) achieved a stunning and unexpectedly one-sided victory over the Government forces led by Sir John Cope.

The battle was fought in East Lothian, Scotland, between Prestonpans, Tranent, and Cockenzie. Although parts of the site have changed over the centuries, important areas of the battlefield have survived as open ground, and it remains possible to explore the landmarks and landscape features which determined the events of that dramatic morning. There is also now a museum open in the town that is open on weekends only.

Edinburgh
Being only 8 miles from the city centre we are in an ideal location to visit the city but return to the peace and quiet of the countryside. There is a direct train as well as 2 bus routes that take you into the city but the train is the quickest and most direct. Edinburgh is a beautiful city with so many sites including the famous Castle the Palace of Holyrood.
