Summer 2026 is agreed apon_ but we are open to offers during the year in EUROPEAN CITIES for a week or longer weekends! Above all we`d like to visit PROVENCE in the first two weeks in September 2026!
We live in a spacious, sunny house with a NATURAL SWIMMING POND in front of it which is wonderful to swim in the summer and to take a nice plunge in the cooler season after the sauna downstairs. Our home is located in a quiet rural area only 12 km from Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, and the 2009 European Cultural Capital. It`s only 2 km from the town of Altenberg and is surrounded by forests, fields and meadows that offer great hiking possibilities. A large horseriding facility, a goat farm and an open air museum can be reached on foot in 15-20 minutes. Also close by is a great swimming lake and a fun pool for kids of all ages, as well as indoor pools, saunas and wellness facilities. In the winter time we enjoy going skiing in the numerous skiing areas around us or we just take a tour on our cross country skis from the back yard of our house. Downstairs in our basement we offer a sauna, which we use a lot to warm up on cooler evenings!

Altenberg is a great starting location for day trips (Salzburg [148 km], Vienna [196 km], Salzkammergut Lake District and Austrian Alps [103 km], Bohemian Forest/Šumava National Park [93 km], Czech Republic border [30 km], Český Krumlov [66 km], Prague [242 km]). Here you can find peace and relaxation, as well as dynamic cultural life in Linz, just a stone's throw away.

About the neighborhood
Things we enjoy doing in our surroundings: The main square of Linz, the capital of Upper Austria, is 15 km from our house. Sometimes we even take a hike down the hill (1.45-2.5 hours) to the city and take the bus back.
Český Krumlov (a UNESCO World Heritage City known as Krumau in German) is a very picturesque, unique Czech town, called the Bohemian Venice, near the Czech border, where we live. We love to visit it several times a year.
It is also fun and interesting to visit the Ars Electronica Center or Lentos Art Museum in Linz (on the picture it is lluminated at night) - a fun thing to do on a cooler or rainy day. Because of its architectonic construction, Lentos recently won a European award.
There are plenty of well-marked hiking and cycling/mountain biking trails near us. But If you feel like visiting a city, Linz, Salzburg and Vienna in Austria, Munich and Passau in Germany or Český Krumlov and České Budějovice in the Czech Republic are all close enough for a day trip! We are also fortunate to have many lakes in the region. The nearest ones are about 10 minutes (Pleschinger See) or 25 minutes (Ausee) away by car. The mountain lakes in Upper Austria and the nearby Salzkammergut Lake District are famous for their great water quality and refreshment on a hot summer day. The lake on one of the pictures is called "Attersee." What we also love to do is just pack up our rucksacks and start hiking right from the gate behind our house.

Sehr nettes Reihenhaus, mit Hintergarten samt Gartenhäuschen mit extra Schlafgelegenheit. Gleich zu Beginn lernten wir die freundlichen Nachbarn kennen, die uns zu einem Fitness Nachmittag einluden. Am meisten begeistert waren wir von den vielen Wander- und Laufmöglichkeiten gleich beim Haus, die uns in Nachbarschaftsorte, zum Hafen und zur Küste oder direkt in die Innenstadt führten, alles fußläufig innerhalb von ca. 20 Minuten erreichbar. Edinburgh ist eine typisch schottische Stadt mit der massiven Burg am Hügel, dem erloschenen Vulkan "Arthurs Seat" als Hausberg und den vielen Bars und Häusern im georgianischen oder viktorianischen Stil. Ausflüge in die Highlands, Glasgow und in die rauhen Küstenregionen rundeten den Besuch ab!
Brian and Caroline were superb, communicative exchange partners. They made us feel extremely welcome in their beautiful home, which had all the amenities we could have hoped for. The location was idyllic and ideal for exploring upper Austria and beyond. We made trips to the amazing lakes and popped in to Czechia for the day, which was fabulous. When not visiting different places we spent time relaxing around the attractive garden and swimming in the wonderful natural pond. This house is built for holiday relaxation and we loved every day of our trip.
Herzliches Dankeschön für die Möglichkeit, in eurem wunderbaren Heim herrliche Sommertage zu verbringen! Es war alles so, wie beschrieben, eigentlich sogar noch besser :) Wir haben die Ruhe am Land, das kühle und sehr geräumige Haus, den tollen Schwimmteich mit der Möglichkeit, ins Wasser zu springen, sehr genossen. The apartment was cozy and comfortable. We liked the location towards the outskirts of Vienna and near the Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens, a great spot for early morning runs and walks. We also had several good public transportation connections to the center of the city (tram, bus, S-Bahn) very close by. Our communication with Julia and Matthias worked very well.

Arrangements for summer 2026 have been made. Always looking for swaps for long weekends or up to one week or so during the year, preferably in Ljubljana, Milano, Triest, Paris, Amsterdam, Rome, Berlin or any surprise offers?
